| American Foods
You may notice that our food links cross borders and are, sometimes,
not very good examples of "American foods". Even so, our specialty
is American foods by the season and region. We cook food
that reflects our heritage with ingredients that come from the bounty
of the diverse regions of our country. The organizations that
are listed below aim to help preserve the richness of our country's
regional food. That's how they came to be listed on this page.
From time to time we will add listing to this page as a way to help
you find links to the heritage and future of American foods. Check
our link on Fresh Food Finds for all 50
states.
This list is continued on our Recommended Links
II page.

This site is #1 on our list because baselines for healthy eating
and everything else is number one!
Shifting Baselines
http://www.shiftingbaselines.org/index_site.html
"There is a new term in the environmental movement. It sounds esoteric,
like the kind of thing you don't really need to understand, something
you can leave to the more technical types. The term is "shifting baselines,"
and you do need to know it, because shifting baselines affect the quality-of-life
decisions you face daily. Shifting baselines are the chronic, slow,
hard-to-notice changes in things, from the disappearance of birds and
frogs in the countryside to the increased drive time from L.A. to San
Diego. If your ideal weight used to be 150 pounds and now it's 160,
your baseline-- as well as your waistline -- has shifted."

2002)
Share Our Strength
http://www.strength.org/
"Share Our Strength is one of the nation's leading anti-hunger, anti-poverty
organizations. The organization began in the basement of a row house
on Capitol Hill in 1984. In the beginning, we organized a handful of
chefs to cook for fundraisers. Today we mobilize thousands of individuals
in the culinary industry to organize events, host dinners, teach cooking
and nutrition classes to low-income families and serve as anti-hunger
advocates. And we mobilize hundreds of literary professionals to conduct
benefit readings and contribute works to Share Our Strength books."
